Here’s an explanation of how Instant EFT works with PayFast, broken down for clarity and suitable for an FAQ or informational context:
PayFast Instant EFT Explained
PayFast’s Instant EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) allows customers to make secure online payments directly from their bank account without needing a credit or debit card. Here’s how the process works:
Checkout Selection: At the online store’s checkout page, the customer chooses “PayFast” as their payment method, and then selects the “Instant EFT” option.
Bank Selection: PayFast presents a list of supported South African banks (typically the major banks like ABSA, FNB, Nedbank, Standard Bank, Capitec, Investec, TymeBank, and African Bank.). The customer selects their bank.
Redirection to Bank: The customer is securely redirected to their chosen bank’s online banking login page. This is a crucial security aspect: PayFast itself never sees or stores the customer’s online banking login credentials.
Login and Authentication: The customer logs in to their online banking platform as they normally would, using their usual username/customer number and password. They may also need to complete a two-factor authentication step (e.g., entering an OTP sent to their phone), depending on their bank’s security settings.
Payment Confirmation: Once logged in, the customer is presented with a pre-populated payment request for the exact amount of their purchase. This eliminates the need to manually enter payment details, reducing the risk of errors. The beneficiary details (the merchant’s account) are also pre-populated.
Authorization: The customer reviews the payment details and authorizes the transaction, usually by clicking a confirmation button or entering a confirmation PIN, according to their bank’s procedures.
Real-Time Processing: The payment is processed in real-time. PayFast receives immediate confirmation from the bank that the payment has been successful.
Return to Merchant: The customer is automatically redirected back to the merchant’s website.
Order Confirmation: The merchant’s website displays an order confirmation page, and the customer typically receives an order confirmation email. The merchant also receives notification from PayFast that the payment was successful.
Payflex is a “buy now, pay later” (BNPL) payment solution in South Africa that allows you to split your purchase into four interest-free installments. Instead of paying the full amount upfront, you pay 25% at the time of purchase, and then three more 25% installments every two weeks.
Key Features of Payflex:
- Interest-Free: Payflex does not charge interest on the installments, as long as you make your payments on time.
- Four Installments: Your purchase is split into four equal payments.
- Bi-Weekly Payments: You pay the first installment at checkout, and the remaining three installments are automatically deducted every two weeks.
- Easy Application: The application process is quick and easy, typically done during checkout.
- No Credit Checks for small amounts: (Under a certain threshold, often around R2000, but this can change) Payflex may not perform a traditional credit check. However, for larger purchases, they will likely conduct a credit check.
- Late Fees: Payflex will charge fees for missed or late payments.
How to Use Payflex:
Shop Online: Browse the online store that offers Payflex as a payment option (like Printer Cartridges Online). Add the items you want to your cart.
Select Payflex at Checkout: At the checkout page, choose “Payflex” as your payment method.
Payflex Account (New Users):
- If you don’t have a Payflex account, you’ll be guided through a quick application process. You’ll typically need to provide your South African ID number, mobile number, email address, and debit/credit card details.
- Payflex will assess your application (this may involve a soft credit check, especially for larger purchases).
- If approved, you’ll create a Payflex account.
Payflex Account (Existing Users):
- If you already have Payflex account. You will be prompted to log in.
First Payment: You’ll pay the first 25% installment immediately using your linked debit or credit card.
Automatic Deductions: The remaining three installments will be automatically deducted from your linked card every two weeks. You’ll receive reminders before each payment is due.
Manage Payments: You can manage your Payflex account and payments through the Payflex website or app. You can view your payment schedule, update your card details, and make early payments if you wish.
There are no hidden fees. The total price you see at checkout, including shipping costs, is the final amount you will pay
Security
